Undergraduate Students in the Patrick Lab
Alex Solis, undergraduate researcher
I am a senior Ecology major conducting research under Dr. Christopher Patrick. My research in the lab investigates the life history and ecology of freshwater prawn (Machrobrachium spp.) in streams and river of Texas as well as decomposition. I have also participated in a research experience for undergraduate students program (REU) at the Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory in Gothic, Colorado. I worked under the guidance of Dr. Rosemary Smith, studying competition between ants and sexton beetles for small mammal carcass. My dream study subjects would have to be Bears, Bats, or Bugs. I hope these experiences help guide my interests as I continue my education in to graduate school and beyond. If I’m not in the lab, field, or studying, then I am out at the beach surfing or playing table top games with some friends.

I am currently an undergrad student here at TAMU-CC, and I am working on my Bachelor’s degree in Animal Biology with a minor in Chemistry. During my time here at TAMU-CC I have become very involved with my school; I’m in organizations like Tri Beta: Biological Honor society, AED: Medical Pre-Professional Honor Society, American Cetacean Society, Islander Sailing, Aloha Days, The National Society of Leadership and Success, and Chemistry Club. One day I would like to be a wildlife/exotic veterinarian, and I feel that my work as an undergrad laboratory technician will help me to succeed.

I am currently working on getting my bachelors degree in environmental science with a concentration in marine and coastal resources. I am a local Corpus Christian and love the place that I call home. If your having a hard time finding me I'm most likely exploring the South Texas brush country or waist deep in the coastal waters found along South Texas . I have been an avid hunter and fisherman since I could remember. I am a member in many conservation groups located in Corpus. I am an outreach member for the TAMUCC subunit of the American Fisheries Society, a member for the Saltwater Fisheries Enhancement Association (SEA) and the Coastal Conservation Association (CCA). I have spent many hours through high school and early college years volunteering at the TPWD Marine Development Center raising Red Drum, Spotted Sea Trout, and Southern Flounder for stock enhancement. My ultimate goal is to become a TPWD game warden in order to protect the great Texas wildlife resources for present and future generations.
